Richard Cullimore Named Best Natural Healer in the World

Richard Cullimore (53) from Nieuw-Vennep has been named the best natural healer in the world. Although he doesn’t like to brag, he is proud of the World Federation Award and the accompanying medal.

Herbal Medicine: A Lifelong Journey

According to the Surinamese-born healer, there is nothing mystical about herbal medicine. As a child, Cullimore assisted his grandmother, who was the village healer. In the jungle, he helped pick and grind herbs. “I would sometimes get a quarter for that, which was a lot of money back then,” he recalls. Cullimore attributes Suriname’s extensive knowledge of herbs to the country’s diverse cultural influences, including African and Indigenous traditions. “Various peoples brought their own traditions with them,” he explains.

Education and Expertise

Cullimore, who moved to the Netherlands at the age of eleven, knows that plants existed before pills. As a young adult, he gained fame as a martial artist. Cullimore then went on to study in Indonesia, dedicating four years to mastering the world of medicinal herbs. “You need to study,” he acknowledges. “A gift alone is not enough. You also need to learn.”

The Power of Herbs

“There is an herb for everything,” says Cullimore. People seek his help for various ailments, such as rheumatism, diabetes, high blood pressure, and virility issues. In his experience, patients often turn to him when conventional healthcare can no longer help. “Doctors often say: ‘It’s all in your head.’ What should these people do then? They start looking and end up coming to me.” Remarkably, he doesn’t rely on the internet for promotion, yet people find him nonetheless.

Continuous Discoveries

Cullimore continues to make new discoveries. He recounts the story of a woman who took a herbal mixture to lower her blood pressure, only to find that it also improved her toenails. He takes his own herbal mixtures as well, pointing to a spot on his head where hair is regrowing. He has also developed a product to maintain his weight. Although Cullimore has stopped giving massages, he still makes massage oils.

Returning to His Roots

Cullimore personally travels to his homeland to source the herbs. He is currently setting up his own practice in Suriname. Though he now lives with his girlfriend in Nieuw-Vennep, he spends much of his time abroad, traveling the world for his profession.

No Magic, Just Knowledge

“It’s not hocus pocus,” Cullimore says of his work. He knows colleagues who present their work as magic, but the Nieuw-Vennep resident disagrees with that approach.
